Trying traditional food in Thailand is not only a gastronomical pleasure but a whole cultural experience in itself.
Exotic curry dishes, refined soups, fresh salads, sweets and local beverages will amaze you.

Μentality

Thailand is also known as the “Land of Smiles” and the locals do exactly that in their family and social lives.
The famous “sanuk” (fun) is the motto of their lives and it has its roots to Buddhism, accordingly to which the human being must appreciate and enjoy all that is offered to it, since man is only a passenger in this life and will return again in a better and more refined form.
Man has to be grateful and happy, when his life is blessed with the beauty and the joy of life. Thai people are gentle, kind, patient and strongly dislike the exposure of their private life in public. They rarely engage in public rows.
They pay their respects to teachers and parents and honor their ancestors.
They are hospitable and with great sense of compassion.
They have proved it with their actions in 2004, when the country was hit by the most destructive tsunami in its history.
They gave priority in their hospitals to their foreign guests and helped them rejoin with their lost families.
Thai people believe that the biggest embarrassment for a human being is to lose his dignity and they make sure that this is not going to happen neither to them, nor to the people who visit their country.
During their family visits to restaurants it is always the oldest member who pays the bills.
It is forbidden the touching of the head, because accordingly to the Buddhist culture, it is home to soul and spirit.

They believe in superstitions and they are moved by the ancient stories about spirits which seem to exist and hide almost everywhere in Thailand, accordingly to the old traditions.

However, a visitor will enjoy the hospitality of Thai people and will be impressed by their kindness and deep politeness.
Unless, of course, he starts causing trouble himself with vulgar manners and insulting actions. After all, hospitality too has its limits and this is applicable for any corner of this planet…
