Air tickets – comfortable seats

The best prices are offered by Turkish Airlineswhich fly through Istanbul. They start from 835 € per person and depend upon the season, the demand and upon the equivalence of euro and Turkish pound.

The journey is of 18 hours duration, approximately. Excellent service and food. Extra bonus Wi-Fi, (only 14euro), for the whole duration of the flight.

Comfortable seats

The best seats in the Airbus A330 of Turkish Airlines, at the diagram,

are the: 5 and 22 A Β D E F G J K

The best seats in the Airbus 777-300 of Turkish Lines, at the diagram,

are the: 23 και 42 D E G

*We took the seats 42D, 42E, when we travelled towards the destination and on the journey back we took the seats 40K, 40J (meaning very near to the emergency exit door and with plenty of space for leg stretching).

Where to stay (hotels)

7/2/2015 Istanbul

WOW Airport Hotel

Very near to the airport, nice room, very rich breakfast.

8/2/2015 Ezeiza

Posada de las Aguilas

Relatively expensive, considering what it offers, its rooms very simple, plain and small, its breakfast too plain. Its only advantage, the fact that it is near the airport.

9/2/2015  General Acha

Estancia a Puro Cambo

Good price, at a very nice location (within a manor with swimming pool), beautiful rooms, very plain breakfast. Problematic wifi, they didn’t speak any English at all.

10/2/2015 San Carlos de Bariloche

Hotel Nahuel Huapi

Very expensive, very big building complex, at a beautiful location by the lake.Beautiful rooms, too small though, (many of them without views to the lake), very few parking places, outside on the road, wifi only at the reception area. We couldn’t manage to have breakfast. The dining room, where it was served, was too far from our room. We would loose one hour to get there and one hour to return to the room.

11/2/2015 Sarmiento

I have no words to describe how perfect it was....

12/2/2015 Rio Gallegos

Aire de Patagonia

Excellent, with great price, at a very convenient location, in the centre of the city, recently renovated, very nice and functional rooms, satisfying enough breakfast. Good wifi. They were not speaking English at all

13/2/2015 El Chalten

Hotel  Poincenot

19/2/2015 Commodoro Rivadavia

Austral Express Hotel

Average, good location, rooms small and old, without air conditioning, the breakfast was the only thing worthy. They spoke English, problematic wifi.

Apart Hotel Patagonia Sur

Quite nice hotel, near the centre, average room, sufficient breakfast, good wifi

22/2/2015 Buenos Aires

Esplendor Buenos Aires

Even for that one only, it’s worth visiting Buenos Aires.

Perfect, at a beautiful building, with communal areas decorated with artworks. It is located in the centre of the city, next to one of the most central pedestrian streets. Subway parking very near, wide rooms with high ceilings, beautifully decorated, nice breakfast, good wifi.

Transport (rental car ...or other)

Rental Car
We rented a car from the Baires Rent a Car Company

Transportations

The roads in Argentina are in a good condition, in general, with the exception of small parts with dirt roads.

In Chile, on the contrary, the biggest parts of the roads are not asphalted. The famous Australis Carretera is a dirt road, almost in all its length.

The petrol price in Argentina was approximately from 9,5 to 14,5 pesos per litter.

At Ushuaia, we found petrol at a cheaper price.

At San Carlos, we found petrol at the most expensive price.

The petrol price in Chile was approximately 700 pesos per litter, meaning approximately one euro.

Climate- weather (luggage)

The best season for a journey to Patagonia is winter (December - February), when there is summer at the South Hemisphere. You may take more information at the audley travel.

Proper clothing

Prefer light clothes, which can be worn in layers and wear comfortable, casual shoes.

Wear, definitely, windproof jackets and raincoats for the excursions at the Glaciers and warm clothes and bonnets, scarves and gloves for your trip to Ushuaia.

If you are moving with rental car, things are much easier, since you have your suitcases along all the way.

Foreign exchange

The best solution is to take currency from the cash machines, by paying of course the expected commission. Credit cards are used almost everywhere.

The equivalence between euro – Argentinian pesos, during the period of time that we were there was 1.00 EUR = 9,79 ARS.

And in Chile 1.00 EUR =707 CLP.
