International airport Ezeiza…

We are in the air…

We are ready to make for South America. Our flight from Thessaloniki to Istanbul was scheduled for late in the afternoon, so we arrived at ten o’clock in the evening. It is the first time we were going to use the overnight service, during the transit time in between our two flights. It all worked like a well tuned clock and in less than half an hour we were in our room at the WOW Airport Hotel, resting.

8th of October
Convenience above all

Early morning waking up, amazing breakfast and transport to the airport. We embark, after a little delay. Our seats are already chosen and ideal for the 18 hours long journey that lies ahead. (42D and 42E) at the first line of the second frieze, they allow us to stretch our legs and to support them on the separating part in front of our seats. Whoever has travelled in a long flight (with more than 3-4 hours of duration) is in a position to understand and to appreciate what it means to be able to have your legs stretched and lifted up with a relative freedom of movements, while seated.

This time we break all our records…our last one was Rome-Buenos Ayres (14 hours).

We start in a great mood.

We arrange our hand luggage, put on our slippers and we are ready to face the challenge of the 18 hours flight. I am “armed” with headphones and chargers, accompanied with the iphone6 and the wifi which is available in all the flights of the Turkish Airlines, while Christos is fumbling his own screen, fully decided to see it all… They sweeten us with a Turkish delight, they give us boxes with all the necessary items (ear covers, eye covers, socks, greasing cream for the lips, toothpaste and toothbrush) and we get a first idea of the culinary pleasures of the journey, when we are offered the menu.

Lena and Christos are flying!!!

We watch all the way the progress of our journey, we eat the delicious dishes that we are served and we indulge in raki. We invite you to share with us this wonderful experience…

…after thirteen hours of flight, two full meals, plenty of snacks, many messages to friends and even more “likes” in facebook, we land at Sao Paolo-Brazil. All the passengers continuing their journey with the flight to Buenos Ayres are to remain seated inside the aircraft. A cleaning company comes abroad and prepares the airplane for the second part of the journey, from Sao Paolo to Buenos Ayres.

The memories are foggy_ the “armed” amazon with the iphone6 had given its place to a tired creature which was sleeping practically all over the place, totally exhausted. Christos, slightly in a better state, described to me, afterwards, how funny and messy he thought I was. Thankfully he was reasonably presentable, because we had to take our car on arrival and drive to our hotel. One of us, at least, should be present. The last three hours of the flight were feeling like a dream, while the melodic Portuguese idiom spoken by our vibrant, fresh co-passengers was reaching our ears. Eventually, we arrived to our destination.

Here we are again ...

Four and half years after our first visit, we are again in Buenos Ayres. Our relative confidence is just about to explode, after the failure of our attempt to take Argentinean Pesos from the cash machine at the airport. The young employee of Baires Rent a Car is waiting for us at the Arrivals, holding a label with Christos name on it, so our mood lightens up a bit. Our car is here and waiting for us. We will not live once more Japan’s nightmareWe fill the necessary documents and we make sure that we have all the papers allowing us to cross the border with Chili. We check the car at the parking and we fish the GPS out of the wheel suitcase with the maps and the other necessary documents, which is our loyal co-traveler for the last 10 years. This wheel suitcase is so necessary, really, that before we go or leave somewhere, I check and say to myself mechanically and respectively: “Wheel suitcase ok, Christos ok…we are ready to go”.

We have been informed by the representative of the rental car company who gave us our car that the cash machine did not give us money because it did not have any and that the easiest way for exchange were the hotels in which we were going to spend our nights to. The very same guy lent us 100 pesos for our first night’s expenses.

The Posada De Las Aguilas is very near the airport and we reach there in less than ten minutes. We check in, we go to our room and before we really understand what hs exactly happened we are both fast asleep.

9th of February 2015
Good morning Argentina!!

We start our first day by having breakfast at the hotel which had hosted us. It is quite nice and very near the airport, although its rooms are quite ordinary. The breakfast was plain and simple and more over we realized that it was getting hotter. We started at a temperature of 24 degrees of the Celsius climax and soon we would have to suffer a wave heat that would reach up to 36 degrees. We exchanged 50$ at the hotel and took 430 pesos approximately. I asked the young man at the reception to find us a hotel, while we will be travelling towards San Carlos de Bariloche, 100 or 150 km away from Santa Rosa, so as to divide the distance we had to cover.

He found us an estancia
