At a breath’s distance from…Messi…

We started our journey from Puerto Madryn, we took the National 3 and drove all day long, with two stops (at San Antonio Hoeste and Vietma) only, before arriving at Bahia Blanca, where we would spend the night at. The course was dull and the landscape very monotonous. We just had to cover many kilometers, since we were approaching Buenos Aires. Tomorrow, we will probably have to stop at Mar del Plata. We are sort of pesos and once again we will have to search for cash.

I speak fluently the… Sign Language.

When we arrived at Bahia Blanca, we found the road which would lead us to the Apart Hotel Patagonia Sur ,our choice for the night. Unfortunately the particular road was closed, along with many others. We asked the policemen, whom we found at the points where the roads were closed, how we could reach our hotel and they gave us all the necessary instructions in…perfect Argentinean! After a little odyssey, we managed to reach the hotel and get a sufficient enough room. At the reception, there was a small group of Argentineans who were trying to help us, some of them speaking in Argentinean, some others translating in Argentinean and some others speaking in English. We found out that a football game was in progress.

« Is Messi playing too? » I asked.

Just the mentioning of the famous football player’s name was enough for all them to burst out laughing.

«Of course not!!!» they told us.
«If you want to see Messi, you will have to go to…Barcelona!»

Beautiful summer night!!!

We went on foot to the center of the city, (it was only 5-6 blocks away from the hotel) and found a bank. The night was magnificent, filled with a soft summer breeze. The perfect set up for a nice cold beer. After walking around the city’s streets for a while and having a look at the very few interesting spots of it, (Bahia Blanca is not really a touristic destination), we sat at a café and enjoyed generous glasses of Quilmes beer. We accompanied our drinks with French fries covered with plenty of mayonnaise. It was more than enough for dinner. We had a cup of traditional coffee on the way back and then went straight to bed. Our Saturday night was over!
