Good Friday for the Catholics!!!

Continuations of the torturing traffic jam for us the Orthodox…

After the impressive procession that we saw outside Cartago, and by the time we had almost reached the reception centre at the Poas Volcano National Park, we found ourselves yet in a new traffic jam, due to the great number of visitors at the National Park.

We were hardly moving for more than an hour, waiting for places to empty at the parking area, so as to be able to enter.

The temperature dropped dramatically from 32 degrees of the Celsius Climax to 24 degrees and eventually to 19 degrees, while we were gradually climbing to an altitude higher than 2500mt.

The largest Caldera!!!

When we eventually arrived at the observation point of the volcano and saw in front of our amazed eyes the largest caldera (of active volcano) in the world, we forgot all about traffic jam, delays and tiredness.

The homonymous volcano, apart from its central crater, it also has two smaller ones, which are covered by luscious tropical vegetation.

We were seeing magical pictures in front of us.

Pictures that I have seen only in photos, previously, and I was daydreaming...

And now it was my turn to take as many photos as I wanted from this magical spectacle.
And don’t ask me how many I took…

Countless, I guess…

Luckily, regardless of the delay, we found opened the path (Trail Botos), which was leading to the Lake Botos. This is a route on foot through luscious vegetation, which led us to a beautiful crater with 400mt diameter. It had the beautiful green color of the nephrite and is a point where many rare bird species of the park gather.

We lost the sense of time while searching for them…

Here, one can find the Cloud Forest of the National Park, where there are trails on which 79 rare species of birds have been recorded.

Tropical Forest!!!

We left and headed towards Chachagua, where we were going to spend the night at.
The vegetation was luscious, but the roads narrow, the bridges narrower and the Costa Rican drivers… rather impolite. The landscape reminded us of Galicia and also of the area around Kearns, in Australia.

We arrived at our hotel, Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel et Haciendaa beautiful complex of lovely bungalows. The temperature had climbed up again to 27 degrees of the Celsius Climax.

After the traffic jam and the delay at the Poas National Park, it became quite obvious to us that we wouldn’t be able to do many things. So, we adjusted our schedule to our new data.

Tomorrow it would be Holy Saturday and therefore we decided not to risk it.
We booked an excursion to the Cano Negro Wild Life Refugee.
After having arranged everything for the following day’s excursion, we enjoyed our dinner and then the sounds of the tropical forest that were reaching our ears through the opened windows, till we eventually fell asleep.
