// APRIL 2017
Where there is a will, there is a way

It wasn’t wise of me to start searching for information about Mozambique and Malawi or watching all those photos about island complexes and lakes.

I guess the cold winter of this year and the journey to Philippines in Christmas, which we had both enjoyed a lot, contributed to my boldness.

The determining factor for deciding the journey eventually were the very good air ticket prices to Johannesburg and the rental car, when I got the reassurance from the Rental Car Company that I could move without any restrictions to 5 countries: Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.

All I had to do now was to divide the time properly for visiting all those places. I must admit that this is a permanent problem for me.

While searching for routes, I kept discovering new places and new national parks which I would like to go to.

But I kept discovering more and more difficulties too.

The procedures for issuing visas at the borders were too stressful. The requirements for cross border driving seemed endless and hectic.

The road network in Northern Mozambique was hardly passable, after the raining period…

But in any case, there is always a solution to everything at the end.

The roads of Northern Mozambique are no longer a problem.
All one has to do is to find an alternative way of transport as far as the northern part of the country.
Until the 25th of April our schedule was feasible. Perforce, pass to Mozambique from Zimbabwe.

At this point, we would have no other option than going to Vilankulo. From then on we would continue towards Maputo, since it would be easy to take the plane from there and go to Pemba.

From Pemba, with local rental car, we would drive till the Island of Mozambique, which sits off Mozambique’s north coast, and from then on we would fly back to Maputo. In Maputo we would take the South African rental car, perforce left there for a few days, and we would continue our journey.
