Manja

22nd of September 2017
The more…the merry…

Quite scared of the previous day’s incidents and also skeptical about the serious possibility of having to face new undesirable adventures, we decided to co-travel with an American couple we met at the hotel, since they had with them a local driver and their guide Eugene Rakotomahenina too. More over their schedule was including the same route that we had decided to cover ourselves.

We passed by the lagoon of Entremer and avoided completely the dangerous mud skating, by taking a grand detour.

But at that point it was impossible for me not to wonder: Laurence, why on earth, when I kept sending e-mails asking about the route and the way to approach the hotel, you never bothered to inform me about the proper hours and the high tide? Why you never sent me a schedule of the route that we should follow and the only thing you were really interested in and kept asking for was if we would dine at the hotel and what time exactly?!!!

Inland...

We drove away of the beach, to the inland. It was an intense driving day, since we covered a route where the landscape kept changing, while we were passing by very isolated areas.

We arrived in Manja at 13:00. We asked if we could continue to Tulear and if there was a possibility to find a place to stay for the night on the way there. When we received a negative answer, we decided to stay there. We found a room at the Hotel Kantu, (the only accommodation in the remote village of Manja), ordered our dinner for later on and then got ready for a walk on the roads of the village. But, unfortunately, once we were out of the hotel, we discovered that the rare right wheel of our car was bent right where the rim was meeting the rubber. The solution came quickly, luckily enough, since the technicians sent by the hotel took the wheel, fixed it and brought it back.

We enjoyed a nice large beer so as to forget about this new unexpected trouble and to return back to our good mood. Afterwards we walked the roads of the village,

where the big event was the daily arrivals and departures of the tourists, who were doing the route Morondava- Tulear. In general, all the interesting things in Manja were taking place either inside or around the hotel Kantu.

We tried small fried onion pies, while the whole village was watching and enjoying with our gastronomic curiosity,

explored all the little roads

and then returned to our hotel for dinner. We had zebu and chicken with French fries.

We tried to sleep with the fan on till 4:00 in the morning. The electricity was cut off several times and from 4:00 to 5:30, when it dawned eventually, we were sunk in absolute darkness.
