Military Parade and …200 lakes!!!

We returned to the center of Cuenca, so as to ask about our route to Guayaquil and how we would be able to see the El Cajas National Park.  But, to our surprise, the centre was very crowded and there was a military parade in process!

We watched the parade, took the information we needed and started our trip to El Cajas National Park.

El Cajas National Park is a UNESCO protected site northwest of Cuenca. It is made up of wetlands from glacial activity with more than 200 lakes. It is ideal for hiking, although one may simply admire its unique beauty, while driving on the route from Cuenca to Guayaquil.

Legend has it...

We continued our journey to Guayaquil, the largest and most populated city in Ecuador and also main port of the country, situated on the west bank of the Guayas River, 72km upstream from the Gulf of Guayaquil of the Pacific Ocean.
Legend has it that Guayas_ the great Puna Indian chief_ and his wife Quill fell in the river and drowned themselves so as not to be captured by the Spaniards. As an honor to their sacrifice the city was named after them (Guayaquil).

We arrived to our hotel, Hotel Ramada where we found all that we needed for our  Galapagos Cruise, which would start next day.
We headed down to the jetty of River Guaya, where one can find many bars and lovely taverns with views to the river.

We sat at Sweet and Coffee and had a nice coffee, while enjoying splendid views to the River Guaya!
