Rocky Mountains

13th September
Idyllic landscapes!!!

In front of or eyes was towering the magnificent sierra of the Rocky Mountains, with length 4.800km. The sierra outspreads from Canada till USA’S New Mexico and it is one of the most important sights of Canada. The different altitudes, the forests, the tundra, the rivers, the canyons, the natural diversity of the sierra in general, along with the many wild species of fauna, which live in the Rocky Mountains, have led to the creation of many natural parks and to increased tourist turnout.
We had chosen to take the course till the Bunff national park with the transcanada highway 1, leaving aside the visit to the Whistler ski center, since we did not have enough time for it too. (How could we ever know, then, that we would be so lucky, so as to visit the area again in June of 2012, in a journey which was combining Alaska, Hawaii and the Pacific’s shore, let alone the luck of visiting all the interesting spots of the sierra, in our later journeys to the USA).

We passed by Hope, we moved in parallel with the River Fraser, then we passed by Kamloops and eventually we arrived at the hotel in which we would spend the night at, the Three valley lake Chateau, at the location Revelstoke.

It was an idyllic hotel at the shores of the lake.
The landscape, after a relatively dry summer, felt a little bit naked and hostile.

Tomorrow, the most beautiful things…

14th of September
The blue doll!!!

For today, our program was including a visit to one of the most popular sights in the whole America: A visit to the lake Louise, at the Bunff National Park, which is the eldest National Park of the country, since 1885.

We started from Revelstoke, carried on with the transcanada highway 1, we passed by Rogers Pass, by the Golden and eventually we reached Lake Louise.

The emerald waters of the lake, along with the rich greenery, which surrounds it, and the glacier, which pays its honors to it, create amazingly beautiful scenery, during all the seasons of the year. The lake is one of the most popular destinations and one of the most beautiful places in Canada.

Next, we visited Banff, at which we tried local chocolate specialties. Then we continued our trip, passing by Canmore

“The Manhattan of the prairies”!!!

Eventually, we arrived at Calgary, “The Manhattan of the prairies”.

Calgary is the capital city of the state of Alberta and it is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. We managed to have a glimpse of the city, of its historical buildings and its monuments, of the Tower of Calgary, of its fortress, of the stampede park (where it takes place the biggest Rodeo Show in the world, each year) and the commercial centre with its skyscrapers, before arriving at the airport, for our flight to San Francisco.
