Ottawa

23rd of September
Fairy tale castle!!!

We flew with Air Canada and the duration of our flight was 3, 5 hours. We arrived, landed and took our car from  Avis Company. We started our trip under rain, enjoying the Canadian countryside, towards the capitol of Canada, towards Ottawa, which is also, often, called, rather ironically, Westminster in the Wilderness.

We arrived at our hotel, the Fairmont Chateau Lauriera beautiful castle, in the heart of the city, while the sun was setting.
We tasted the night life of the city, at the area beyond the channel, where the covered markets host restaurants and bars. We enjoyed Italian spaghetti and red wine, at a bistro in the Byward Market.

We returned to our hotel and to our room, at the corner turret, which had views to the old and to the modern city of Ottawa too. We could see at the far end, lit, the whole part of the city at the north of the river. We were going to see it all in daylight too, during the next day.

A very difficult client!!!

We were right in the heart of the francophone Canada and were enjoying an early morning sightseeing tour in Ottawa.
I was the tour guide and Christos was…my client!
A very difficult client, though! He wanted it all translated in French. He claimed that since he was escorting me for four years, to and from the Lycee, I had, at least, to speak fluently French, like a real French girl.

«Aren’t you happy enough with my inherent French finesse?» I had objected.
«NO, with capital letters!» he had adamantly answered …

But let us return to that day’s role of mine and to the sightseeing tour.
The predominant construction of the city is the building of the Parliament, which is built in English, Gothic revival.

The second building/symbol of Ottawa is the  Fairmont Chateau Laurier, which was constructed in 1912.

The most significant technological sight of the city is the sluice gate system of the Rideau Chanel, especially constructed to adjust a water level difference of 25 meters.
Alexandra’s Bridge, Gatineau, which is the part of the city beyond the river, the Byward Market, where skyscrapers are combined with closed markets and flee markets too and eventually the beautiful parks are areas that a tour guide would definitely focus on.

A beautiful morning in Ottawa!!!
