Los Angeles

17th of September
The City of the Angels…

We continued our journey from Venice towards the centre of Los Angeles, driving at the Mulholland Drive.
This is a road which spreads on the ridge of the Santa Monica Sierra and it has spots with amazing views to Los Angeles and to Hollywood.
Mulholland Drive has inspired songs and it has appeared in many movies, most well known of all them the one that was filmed by David Lynch. The director had said once that at this road “you may feel the history of Hollywood”.

The stars to the stars…

It was 8:30 in the morning and we tried our first steps, in the City of the Angels, on the stars …of the Walk of Fame, of course. The stars are embodied into the pavement, with the names of the famous artists of show business written on them.
We were at Hollywood.
The touristic and cosmopolitan.
Here can be found the well known Kodak Theatre, where the Oscar awards ceremony takes place, the last years, here can be found the Man’s Chinese Theatre too, where the imprints of the stars are hosted.
Everything is, really, gathered in a few city blocks of the Hollywood Boulevard.

The scenery is completed by commercial centers, restaurants, impressively floodlit movie theaters and historic hotels. Within a little distance, the Universal, film studios can be seen too, although they no longer operate.

A few km further up, one may see Beverly Hills, the famous neighborhood-symbol of the American Dream.

It was impossible for us not to be carried away by the allurement and the myth which are intertwined with the City of the Angels. Here you feel special and unique. You become the leading star of your own life…

As if in a promotional trailer, I remember us arriving at the golden triangle, through Melrose Avenue, towards Rodeo Drive. Amazing stores and many famous hotels can be seen everywhere. The luxury in all its magnificence.

Elien’s transformation!!!

«It is such a pity, that I don’t have blond hair dancing in the wind, while I’ am driving a cabriolet car. Could I wear a wig, maybe?»
Christos was watching  speechless my transformation to the…wannabe Hollywood actress Eleni Liakou _let alone the fact that I could probably adapt a whole brand new star’s name…Elien Liak, for instance!

And why not, after all? Didn’t I become…MacLiaK in Scotland too?

We continued our strolling towards Midtown of Los Angeles. While walking down town, we saw the park with the pit tars, where all the disaster movies are being filmed.

The last destination of our promenade was the Mexican market at the Olvera Street, in the Pueblo neighborhood.

Counters with masks, maracas and guitars everywhere. Intoxicating smells, Hispanic music trios and, above all, this relentlessly bright sunshine of Los Angeles. Part of this blinding, full of energy kaleidoscope is also the whole white Union Station _another architectural jewel of the city_ built in the modernized architectural rhythm of the Hispanic Mission.
Everything around us screamed Mexico.

«Is it going to be like that in Mexico? We should go there, Christos!!!»

And I had already bought the necessary hat for my new role…
Satiated by Los Angeles and having lived, even for a few hours, the Californian Dream, we started our journey towards Las Vegas.
