General

In order to be able to travel by airplane to New Zealand, to the Cook Islands, to the islands of French Polynesia, to the Easter Island and even to Chile’s Santiago, you are obliged to present your departure ticket…

Credit cards are used everywhere. In New Zealand and in the Cook Islands, which use the same currency, we didn’t even have to make any exchange.

Only in Argentina, though, there are some petrol stations, which do not accept credit cards of other countries.

At the reception centre of the Iguassu Falls National Park, also, they accept only cash and exclusively Argentinean pesos at the ticket desks.

In Chile, the tolls in Santiago and at the neighboring areas are electronic (when you will get the car from the rental company, they will explain the whole procedure to you) and you pay for them when returning the car.

The crossing of the borders from Argentina to Brazil and from Brazil to Uruguay is a very simple procedure and no time consuming at all.

All those socket adaptors from country to country, really, got on my nerves at some point. A nice set of some sort of international adaptor is the perfect solution I guess.

We found out, that even in 4 star hotels the sockets weren’t many enough. If you want to charge 2 mobile phones and 2 cameras you have to stand by like a guard so as to manage charging them all. A small power strip is the solution for the ones that want to do that the traditional way.

Lol: Lately we started using power bank

Food

The cuisine of New Zealand, of Rarotonga, of the Cook Islands, along with the cuisine of the French Polynesia and the cuisine of the Easter Island are based mainly on local products and on fresh seafood too.

The cuisine of Brazil is great and offers really everything. Every day, in between 12:00 and 14:00 in the afternoon, you may find in all the restaurants a very rich buffet with cooked meals at very good prices.

The cuisine of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay is rich in meat. Amazing barbeques with beef meat, pork meat and lamb meat, all grilled in a very special way.

It is a real culinary paradise for the meat lovers.

Must Do

New Zealand

Visit Hobbiton. Soak up Maori culture and hospitality in Rotorua, the cultural heart of New Zealand. Enjoy a delicious “hangi oven” meal and visit the thermal hot pools.
Take up a zip line adventure activity in one of the magical native forests. Visit the art deco city of Napier and enjoy some of its famous wines (Pinot Gris and Syrah).
Organize an adventurous excursion to the amazing Huka Falls with a jet boat.

Cook Islands and Rarotonga

Enjoy a cruise in Aitutaki’s lagoon, the most beautiful in the Pacific Ocean and don’t miss a great meal at the famous Trader Jack’s Bar and Grill.

Bora Bora

Take a lagoon tour, snorkel in the crystal waters with the coral gardens, taste the famous poisson crue, watch the amazing sunset and indulge in a spa.

Tahiti

Do the round of the island, taste the traditional dish ceviche, search for the famous black pearls of the island in the jewelry shops and visit the fascinating market Le Marche in Papeete ( the capital city) for buying your souvenirs.

Easter Island

See The Moais at Rano Raraku National Park, Watch The Sunrise From Tongariki, relax at Anakena Beach, See The Ancient Petroglyphs At Papa Vaka , watch the sunset from Tahai, enjoy the seafood and also the famous traditional dish curanto, cooked in a whole in the ground, in an earthy oven similar to “hangi” (Maori N.Zealand).
Try the famous in whole Latin America “pisco”sour”. (We tried it at Hanga Roa, in the Haka Honu restaurant, at the port).

Chile

Visit the island Chiloe with its amazing palafitos, (colorful, idyllic houses that are based upon wooden pillars) and its many churches. When in Santiago de Chile, absolute must the visit to La Chascona (Pablo Neruda’s home)

Argentine

For us it was the third time that we were visiting Buenos Aires, during our latest travelogue to Latin America.
One has to say so many things about this fab city and always to discover something new.
This time we paid visits to San Telmo and to Puerto Madero (situated at the shores of Rio de La Plata and hot night spot), where we had beer with finger food and then a really huge and fabulous dinner with barbeque ribs, at the super famous “Johnny be good”.
