Rain forests…crystal lagoons!!!

A beautiful, sunny day dawned. We started our trip, so as to see the sights of Moorea, having a first stop at the forest with the pineapples and one more at the observation post Belvedere Lookout, which is one of the most impressive spots in the world.

It is located in between the Cook and Oponobu Bay, into the luscious green, internal part of the island and it is an absolute “must” for all the guests.

We enjoyed the beautiful views from above: the rugged volcanic peaks reflecting on the peaceful waters of the gulfs, the covered by rain forests or pineapple plantations slopes of the mountain and the white sanded beaches, right next to the crystal lagoons.

Bathed by the sunlight, they all looked different.

Especially, the peaks of the whole green slopes, full of mystery, but then again so familiar as a picture, since one may see them in all the tourist leaflets of French Polynesia.

We bought fresh foie gras and red wine from Vaiare and then we had some leisure time at the Temae Beach, the most beautiful beach in the island.

The most beautiful swimming pool!!!

Next, we returned the car and we crossed to the Papeete with the ferry. It was only a small course which lasted only an hour. We had arranged for our transfer, from the ferry’s terminal, to get a rental car as soon as we would reach Papeete. We chose again a small BYD car and went to our hotel, the  Tahiti Pearl Beach Resort

It was an amazing hotel with the most beautiful swimming pool I had ever swum.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon by the pool, drinking the local beers  Hinano accompanied with Mexican potato chips and guacamole sauce.

An exceptional, special day!!!

The day of our wedding anniversary dawned. So many wonderful years TOGETHER!!!

We checked out early, we took beach towels with us, just in case we would feel like swimming, and then we started our trip around the island.

The whole green and beautiful Tahiti island, is separated in two parts: The larger part, at the northwest, is known a Tahiti Nui, while the smaller one, the peninsula at the southeast, is known as Tahiti Iti.

The beach road passes through the villages. At some point we found a flea market. We walked there, looked around and bought my present…a necklace with a small, black pearl.

We continued our journey towards Papeno’o, Maha’ena and towards Taravao till Tautira, where we took the road back towards Papeari, Puna’auia and Faaa, before ending up to Papeete, where we got acquainted with a lively city with big avenues and a busy port.

The public market at the center of the city, “Le Marche”, is a fascinating place for anyone who wants to buy anything and especially souvenirs and presents.

We completed the tour of the island and returned to our hotel, where we spent the last hours of the day in the pool, before freshening up at the spa of the hotel, so as to be ready for our after midnight flight.

Greek Salad, the famous one!!!

We had read about the traditional food of French Polynesia which is served at popular local spots, known as Les Roulottes.
On our way to the airport, we saw at some point many stopped cars, cantinas and set tables.
So we stopped too and found out that there was…Greek Salad in the menu. Of course, what we were served had nothing to do with a real Greek Salad.
It was just raw fish, cut in unacceptably big pieces for cheviche (fish cooked only with salt and lemon, usually, or with something similar to it) served with tomatoes, cucumber and onions.

If only they had the inspiration to fry the fish or at least to cook it for some time…It would be divine then!!!

The girls serving the customers asked us where we came from and when they realized that we were Greeks wanted to know whether the dish was successful. What could I say to them??? Very politely, I tried to teach them the correct recipe….

So we ended up sharing Christos’s well done steak along with the French fries and left aside my dish. Ready, then, for our night flight, we went to the airport, where we returned the car and left the place, starting our journey to the Easter Island.
