19th of September 2015
Have we found ourselves in a different island???

The next day was completely different. We woke up and it was down pouring. There was humidity and no sign of the previous day’s sun too.

We got advantage of the situation as it was and took it easy, fixing our suitcases. When it was time to leave the hotel and go to the airport, we had to wear nylon ponchos so as to reach the reception without being completely wet.

We covered by taxi the same course that we had, also, covered, the previous day, returning to the port, where from we would take the catamaran, which would lead us to the airport’s island.

All the shinning, turquoise beaches of the island were now looking miserable and graceless.

How the sun really affects everything!!!

It changes it all with its magic caress…

While waiting to go aboard, we enjoyed the performance of a Bora-Bora artist, who devoted two songs to us (one for each one)…

Bewitched by the island, a little wet and still having the beautiful melodies in our ears, we reached the airport with the catamaran.

As we were watching the newly arrived tourists, who were disembarking the aircraft and were walking into the pouring rain, while holding the umbrellas given to them by the ground hostess, I couldn’t help thinking how sorry I was feeling for them!!!

How so very beautiful our own experience of arrival was and how so very miserable was theirs…

Fortunately, at this corner of the planet, the weather conditions are quite changeable and the bad weather usually doesn’t stay for long.

Exotic pick nick!!!

We flew through heavy cloudiness and reached Moorea.

They were waiting for us from AVIS Company and led us to their offices, right across the ticket counters of the ferries.
We took our Lilliputian BYD car. It was brand new. As, in a cellophane box really… I just got the chance and bought our next day’s tickets, for Papeete.

With our car and tickets in hand, we started towards our hotel, making the round of the island from the East to the West, always driving in parallel with the south shore. The weather conditions were obviously much better than the ones in Bora-Bora, but still not proper for swimming, since it was foggy, it was drizzling and the low clouds were literally sitting on the tops of the mountains, hiding them.

Those were the famous and widely photographed mountain tops which I couldn’t get enough from, when I was seeing them at the travel guides…

The day was probably not suitable for swimming, but it was perfect for a pick nick. French bread, goat cheese and red wine, a bench by the sea…and our pick nick was set within a minute.

The course led us eventually to the north part of the island, with its characteristic shape of heart. A dicotyledonous heart really, since two deep grooves at the North coastline create two safe gulfs for the sailboats and give it its shape, this way.

The luscious greenery of the island looked beautiful, an amazing canvas really, while the water droplets were trembling under the rarely astonishing sunlight, which was caressing the leaves.

In our hotel, Hotel Kaveka, at the Eastern shore of the East Groove, our room, a classic bungalow, welcomed us warmly and offered us cosines, during this short, fresh breathing space of the French Polynesia’s extended summer.
