Colonia del Sacramento

5th of October 2015
Last promenades at…the oldest city!!!

The last day of our journey was devoted to  Colonia del Sacramento. It is the oldest city of Uruguay, the historical center of which is a Monument of Universal Heritage protected by UNESCO.

We walked on the narrow, cobbled streets, at the small peninsula, which protrudes from the river, in between plane trees and very beautiful buildings.

Whoever finds what time is it…wins!!!!

We would return to Buenos Aires by ferry. Our journey was scheduled at three o’ clock in the afternoon.
Two hours earlier, and while we were thinking that we had come precisely the right time at the port, so as to embark on time, there was a messy mixed up situation.

Our watches were showing 13:00 in the afternoon, the clerk, at the entrance of the port, was showing us at her watch that it was 11:00 and the taxi driver, who was trying to explain what was happening, was insisting that it was 12:00!
All,
in a strange way, we were right. Each year, the first Sunday of October, Uruguay changes time. Or rather it was changing, until this year, when we visited and then… it decided not to do so!
But our watches, which work automatically, were showing the typical yearly change of time.

The clerk at the port, who was neither speaking nor understanding English, was trying to explain that we should be at the boarding point, two hours before the scheduled departure and…the taxi driver had the correct time!

What a mess!!

So, we took advantage of the situation and of the spring like weather and had some more promenades. Eventually, we managed to embark on time to the ferry, which would take us back to Buenos Aires.
