7nth of October
Parrots’ Colony !!!

Our third day started with a short canoe trip down River Napo, for watching parrots.

The Kichua People…A World Apart!!!

At a short distance from Sacha Lodge, on the edge of Yasuni Park is Ecuador’s most accessible parrot lick, an exposed clay riverbank where brightly colored parrots of several different species gather in the early morning.
In ideal conditions  hundreds of parrots will perch on and eat the exposed clay in a spectacular show of sound and colour!

Our day continued with a visit to the native group of Kichua, of the Providencia Community in Yasuní, one of the 250 native groups, who live in the Amazon Rainforest.

These indigenous communities have preserved and kept alive their specific cultures and we hoped that we would be able to learn more about their philosophy and their ways of life, while visiting them.
At the same time, we wanted to strengthen somehow, to the extend we could, the initiative Shipati Warmi (a program aiming to benefit the women of the community and their income) Indeed, just the two of us accompanied by
Joel, since the couple from Wales had left,

after a discreet dialogue, we learnt about their daily life and tried to help in the preparation of their traditional dishes, which we tasted all together, before returning to the lodge for an early afternoon siesta.

Late in the afternoon, we went for our last boat trip under a heavy, black sky…

The storm was surrounding us for a while, before breaking up.
A little earlier a strong wind had created waves in the lake.

At least we had time to put our rain proof jackets on, although with such a rain we were inevitably… almost unprotected!

Wet to the bone, literally, we returned to the lodge and went to the raised lookout area, above the bar and lounge, where we were having our dinner every evening.

While drying, we enjoyed our coffee and the amazing Rainforest views.
