Necessary documents

For travelling to Europe:

Entrance Visa

See here which countries’ citizens need visa

Travel Documents.

If you are citizen of a ΕU country, there is no need to present your ID card or passport when travelling in between EU countries, which belong in the Schengen Zone.

Even if there is no passport control at the borders within the area of the Schengen Zone, it is recommended to always have with you passport or ID card, so as, if needed, to be able to prove who you are (for instance, if the document is asked to be presented by the police, when boarding on a plane and so on). The countries members of the EU, within the area of the Schengen Zone, have the possibility to enact national rules, which may be oblige you to have with you identification documents, when you are at their territory.

The driving licenses, the credit cards and also the tax cards, are not accepted as valid travel documents or as evidence of identity.

Vaccines and medicines, health cards

Go to your Social Insurance Institution and ask for the EHIC.

By having this document along, you will secure in the whole duration of you journey medical coverage in the Public Sector (doctors, pharmacies, hospitals), but not in the Private Sector.

EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)

It is a free of charge card which offers access to a public, necessary medical health care, during your temporary stay at one of the 28 countries of the EU, at Island, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, under the same conditions and with the same cost (in some particular countries, free of charge) that are applicable for the citizens insured in the country of your current stay.

The cards are issued by your National Health Insurance Provider.

Significant noteThe EHIC:

  • Does not replace the travel insurance and does not cover the private medical care. It also does not cover costs like the return air ticket to your country or the loss/stilling of movable assets.
  • Does not cover your costs if you are travelling specifically, so as to take medical care.
  • Does not guarantee the free of charge rendering of services. With the given fact that the health care systems of each country differ, services that are rendered free of charge in your own country may not be rendered  free of charge, too, in another one.

Air tickets – comfortable seats
