Kalahari (Botswana)

8th of May 2017
Ramatlabama, on the border with Botswana...

We woke up at dawn, when it was still fresh,

so as to reach early Ramatlabama Border Post and to cross into Botswana.
The procedure was simple and easy and the payment of the car fee and toll fee was done by credit card… And, yes, this efficient Africa exists too…
20 km after we had crossed the border into Botswana, we were stopped by the police. They asked for our driving licence and when they saw the Greek letters burst out laughing.

“What on earth is this? It’s the first time we see something written in this funny
   and peculiar language
…” they said and then let us continue with a wave.

After 100 km, we drove on Α2, the Transkalahari highway. he driving on it was very particular, different in many ways. Traffic was rare and there were quite a few donkeys moving at the side of the road. The road surface was uneven too.

We were stopped again by the police. This time they didn’t demand anything from us. They just gave us an informative brochure about speed limit and safe driving.

In the beginning the sky was moody, but then the sun started playing with the clouds and all the colors became brighter.

Beautiful thatched roof hut... at Kalahari Rest Lodge!!!

We arrived at Kalahari Rest Lodge. and went to our bungalow.
We drove around the lodge by car and also strolled on foot.

While walking in the wild grass, we became acquainted with all sorts of thorns. They were everywhere. Inside our Bermuda shorts, inside our socks, inside our shoes… Even on our skin…

We spent the rest of the afternoon by getting rid of them, but then we had the pleasure of seeing a magnificent African sunset.

The sun gave its place to an amazing full moon which was bathing our hut in silver moonlight and was adding an alluring beauty to it…
