13nth of June
The beautiful guesthouse just outside of Lixouri

We kept driving on the route which would lead us to Paliki and after passing by the villages Angonas, Nifio, Kardakata and Agios Dimitrios, we arrived eventually in Lixouri. We hadn’t planned to visit it during our first evening in Kefalonia, since we wanted to find our accommodation in Lepeda, and more precisely in the area of Logos, and to rest after our long journey.

We would spend our night to the complex of guesthouses “Alekos Beach Houses” and more particularly in the Villa Alexandros.

But, nothing really had prepared us for this beautiful villa and the amazing natural beauty which surrounds it!

Just one and a half km south of Lixouri, within a bosky area of 2.300mt, five beautiful guesthouses are to be found.
They are all situated right in front of the sea, but Villa Alexandros, the most impressive of them all, is among the best accommodation that can be found in the whole island of Kefalonia.
After having entered the patio door with the railing and having parked our car, we walked to the little private road which was leading to a magic beach, with characteristic red sand. Just a few meters before the exit door to the beach, we saw on our left hand a magnificent villa with a circumferential veranda (200mt), which was having amazing views to the sea.

Moreover, right in front of the veranda, there was a very nice area covered with lawn and also a specially designed place for barbeque.

Royal Welcome!

The large wooden table with its many chairs was covered with pretty lanterns and as we were watching it impressed, we noticed Kostas, the owner, approaching.
He was already waiting for us, in order to welcome us the best way possible.
He brought us homemade “Giuvetsi” (meat cooked in red sauce with pasta in the oven), prepared by his wife, feta cheese and many other local tidbits (mezedes), which we were going to accompany with the famous kefalonian wine Robola!

The dusk was painting the sky with crimson, purple, pink and golden colors and everything around us was wrapped into a magic shady veil.

But before starting to enjoy all those local delicacies and before beginning to talk about old stories of Kefalonia and learning, also, the personal story of Alekos, Kostas’ father, a real character of Paliki, we entered the guesthouse to leave our luggage.
And then, our surprise for the luxury and the high aesthetics of the beautiful house by the sea immediately gave its place to admiration!
Three exquisite bedrooms, each with its own different decoration, a nice entrance area along with a fully equipped modern kitchen, large living room and two luxurious bathrooms!
The house has everything, really, even an internal cozy fireplace, while at the same time there are lovely tiny bags with toiletries in each bedroom.
Even small, elegant parcels with local sweets complete the welcoming of the guests, which Kostas has developed into some form of art!

Our first night in Paliki of Kefalonia was pure magic!
The laughter, the humor and the good and friendly mood were in excess, while at the same time we could see the cruise ships in the distance, along with many private yachts, sailing by with all their lights on.
What else could one ask for?

In the next coming days, Kostas would introduce us to some amazing Kefalonians, who would tell us all about the history of Paliki and Lixouri.
We would learn many of the secrets and the beauties of this alluring land, while we would realize that Kostas, with all the things he did for us during our staying in Paliki , is definitely quiet a host!

But it was still only our first night in the enchanting Kefalonia…Although we were thirsty to see and learn it all, we knew that we should first get a good night’s rest after our long journey…

So, after an excellent dinner with plenty of warmth and hospitality and after having felt the spellbinding of an evening in Paliki, we said good night to our host and went to bed early, trying for first time the comfort of the beautiful bedrooms of the house.

Our journey would start, basically, the next day, so we would have to rest well, if we wanted to wake up early in the morning and feel ready for adventures…
