26/10/2014  Narita
• Narita Excel Hotel Tokyu 286-0131, Narita, Oyama 31, Japan €71, ¥9.600
The hotel offers a bus transport service from and to the airport. Τhe staff was of excellent service and willingly helpful to all our requests. Prices are very good and the room was descent,  and well equipped, although not very new.

27/10/2014 Aizuwakamatsu
• Tagoto Hotel 965-0043, Aizuwakamatsu, Johoku-machi 5-15, Japan €88, ¥11.880
Beautiful and traditional but they were not speaking English at all. Difficult to find, the room was nice, but the bathroom was a little inconvenient.

28/10/2014 Nagoya
• Hotel MyStays Nagoya-Sakae 460-0005, Nagoya, Naka-ku Higashi-Sakura 2-23-22, Japan €83, ¥11.200
I don’t remember anything special, apart from the fact that it was descent and right in the centre of the city.

29/10/2014 Οσάκα
• Mitsui Garden Hotel Osaka Premier 530-0005, Osaka, Kita-ku Nakanoshima Kita 3-4-15, Japan €114, ¥15.300
Excellent, very nice location by the river, new, modern, unique view.

30/10/2014 Hiroshima
• Grand Prince Hotel Hiroshima 734-8543 ,Hiroshima, Minami-ku Motoujina-machi 23-1, Japan €67, ¥8.945
The room had no character, there was something wrong with the drains, but the places for public use and the bar at the top floor were superb.

31/10/2014 Nara
• Hotel New Wakasa Nara 630-8274, Nara, Kitahanda Higashimachi 1, Japan €134, ¥18.000
Traditional, with Japanese type beds set especially for us every evening. We had our one and only breakfast there.

1/11/2014 Kyoto
• Hotel MyStays Kyoto-Shijo 600-8494, Kyoto, Shimogyo-ku Shijo-dori Aburanokoji Higashiiru Kasaboko-cho 52 Japan €232, ¥31.200
Very well located right in the centre of the city, only a square away from the market, 10 minutes on foot away from the river.

02/11/2014 Mishima
• Dormy Inn Mishima 411-0035, Mishima, Omiyacho 3-18-33, Japan €88, ¥11.890 Beautiful hotel, too expensive for a village, though.

• Ginza Grand Hotel (Formerly: Hotel Com's Ginza) 104-0061, Chuo-ku, Ginza 8-6-15, Japan €82, ¥11.000
It is located at an excellent spot and it has its own parking. The room was too small, quite good for Tokyo’s standards though, functional and fairly equipped. The service at the reception was very good. Its price rockets up during Friday and Saturday.

04/11/2014 Seoul
• Egarak Residence IBC The Oville #845, 72, Gonghang-ro 424beon-gil, Jung-gu, 400-340 Incheon, South Korea €45, KRW 55.200
Good price, not too near the airport, the receptionist spoke good English, helped us with our requests,  very big room with its own kitchen, free bus transport from and to the airport. Excellent restaurant at the ground floor of the building.

05/11/2104 Seoul
• Fraser Suites Insadong Seoul 18 Insadong 4 Gil, 110-320 Seoul, South Korea €108, KRW 133.650
Excellent. Upgrade without extra charges to the presidential suite for both days of our staying. Five minutes distance on foot to the airport’s bus stop, very near to all the sights.
P.S: This particular hotel was recommended to us by a couple from Israel, who had stayed there a few days before our arrival and whom we met at Osaka, while we were taking the cars from the hotel’s parking.

Transport (rental car ...or other)

Rental car
The driving in Japan is on the left side of the road, while in South Korea is on the right one. Certainly necessary the international driving license in both countries. Make sure that you have GPS and that the menu is in English.
The GPS in the rental cars work, mainly, with phone numbers and somewhere there stops the assistance of the English menu...

Transports
The transports by train are expensive and time consuming, but the tolls, if you move by car in the motorway, are outrageously expensive – something inevitable though, if you want to move fast. As a matter of fact they are so expensive that there were days when their cost was covering the whole actual cost for hotel and petrol too!!!
The price of the petrol was 1, 30 € per lt. You may check prices  here

Climate- weather (luggage)

The best season for a journey to Japan is spring, (February - April) when the cherry trees are blossoming, and in autumn (October and November) when the birch trees’ leaves are changing colours. It would be ideal if one could visit the country in both seasons. We will try to visit it in winter too for the ice festival of Sapporo in the Hokkaido Island.
Click here for finding the best season  for a journey to South Korea.

Proper clothing

You may choose light clothes that you should wear in layers and convenient flat shoes. If you move by rental car, things are easy, since you have your suitcase with you all along.

Foreign exchange

The best solution when it comes to foreign exchange is the cash machines, if of course you are prepared to pay the required commission. The credit cards are used almost everywhere.

The equivalence euro-yen, while we were in Japan, was 1€ = 138¥, and while in South Korea the equivalence euro - South Korean Won was 1€ = 1,204.34 KRW

Contacting your Embassy
