Cradle of civilization

We left Nagoya and started our journey towards Ishe
The Great Temple which is located in Ishe is a Shinto sanctuary. Simply known as Jingu, it is in reality a complex which consists of a great number of Shinto sanctuaries but only two temples are really predominant in it: The Naiku and the Geku.

Naiku is located at the centre of the South of the city of Ishe and it is a sanctuary where the Amaterasu-Omikami are worshipped. Gekū βis 6 kilometers away from Naikū and is devoted to Toyouke, the goddess of agriculture and industry. Apart from Naikū and Gekū, there are 123 more Shinto sanctuaries in the city of Ishe and the areas that surround it. 92 of them are connected with Naikū and the rest 32 are connected with Gekū.

After visiting Naiku and Geku we crossed the Kansai Peninsula with its narrow, but beautiful provincial roads. The Kansai area is the cradle of civilization in Japan with plenty of Buddhist temples, which are usually built into beautiful, large, well preserved parks. Nara, the ancient capitol city and the visit to the holy Mountain Koya san, which is known as the center of the shingon religious section, branch of the Japanese Buddhism, are two of the most beautiful travelling experiences in Japan.

At last, we left behind us the city with the very modern roads and the high tech buildings and are now entering a Japan that we haven’t met up to this point. The journey next to the riverside is simply magical since it is the first time that we were becoming acquainted with the Japanese nature, the villages and the provincial houses, while in parallel we were searching for Yoshino Shrine.
