“The Pride of Lower Saxony”
Hannover 2nd of May

Our journey to beautiful Hannover (capital of the German State of Lower Saxony-Germany) started at 5.30 in the late afternoon from the international airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” in Athens.

We travelled with Swiss Air, via Zurich and had the chance to spend a little time in this rather busy airport of Switzerland, before boarding the plane again for our final destination.

We landed in Hannover’s international airport at 10:30, late in the evening, but the clear night sky allowed us to have an amazing view of the whole lit city of Hannover before our very smooth touchdown.

“The Pride of Lower Saxony”, as the Germans also call it, lies at the confluence of the River Leine and its tributary Ihme, in the South of the North German Plain. It is the third largest city of the northern part of Germany, after Hamburg and Bremen, (population 536.000 approximately).  Since we had already eaten twice during our two flights and, of course, we had taken the chance in the airport of Zurich to try some of the famous Swiss chocolates, while waiting to board for second time, we took a taxi and headed straight to our hotel to rest after our journey.

Cozy, friendly and stylish hotel!

We had chosen for our few days staying in Hannover the beautiful Hotel Grünewald, since it is situated in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of the city and very near to the tram stop Vier Grenzen, where from one can reach the Central Train Station of Hannover (Hauptbahnhof) and also the heart of the city only within 8 minutes. Moreover, the extremely privileged position of our hotel would allow us to go by foot to almost all the lovely sightseeing we wanted to visit, like the amazing forest Stadtwald Eilenriede and the historic centre of Hannover too.

We fell in love with the place at first sight. The hotel was cozy, friendly and had character. Our room was having views to the pretty garden and was relaxing and tranquil.  Grünewald also has an internal swimming pool and sauna, a beautiful and homey dining room for breakfast with stained glass windows, veranda, private parking and bicycles for the guests. Its general atmosphere is lovely, warm and hospitable.

Absolutely satisfied with our choice we went to bed early for a good night’s sleep since next day we were going to become acquainted with one of the most beautiful and characteristic cities of Germany.

We were longing to learn all about it, since, regardless of its natural beauties and amazing sightseeing is not so well known as Berlin or Munich. But, as we would discover in the next coming days, it’s really worth visiting. It is a great European city and has many and very interesting things to unveil to a visitor, when it comes to its marvelous culture, history and multi-culti and diverse character.
