Mesta

5/12/2017
Something magic and eerie too…!!!

When we arrived at our destination, it was already dark. We left the car at the parking outside the village (Mesta is a traditional medieval castle/village and cars can not enter its narrow roads with the low arches) and tried to find the main entrance, which would lead us in the village.

We discovered it accidentally and once we crossed it, we felt that we had just entered a fairy tail kingdom.

At the end of the narrow road with the arch, a lady was lightening a pendant candle. She explained us that it was a custom connected to the celebration day of St. Nikolas on the 6th of December (next day, actually)!

We kept walking into the labyrinth of narrow roads in Mesta, feeling a bit like heroes in some medieval fairy tale. The atmosphere had something magical and eerie at the same time…

Eventually, we arrived at the central square and went to the bar at which the locals spend their evenings, during the winter. We were going to wait for Yannis, the owner of the hotel “Medieval Castle Suites”, which would host us for two nights. We enjoyed hot, strong coffee and some drinks. Meanwhile, we had the pleasure to become acquainted with some of the inhabitants of Mesta, who were proved extremely friendly and interesting.

Yannis appeared a little later, led us to our suite and gave us the keys. He wished us a good night’s sleep, left and we…decided to return to our car and take our luggage. We decided, exactly! Because, we weren’t so sure that it would be possible for us to find the way back to our hotel, with all those narrow roads that felt like an endless labyrinth in the darkness, while the only thing we could hear was the sound of our steps on the ancient stone-paved road…

Authentic medieval color!!!

Well, we did it, eventually! And when we opened the door of our suite…the fairy tale we were living in continued!

The outdoor stone staircase, which appeared in front of our amazed eyes, was continuing further up, after the main entrance and the internal door of our suite. It was leading to a small terrace on a second level and was giving the sense that we were really inside a castle! Our suite itself was absolutely fantastic too. There was a sitting room and a luxurious kitchen on the first level, while the bedroom and the bathroom were on the second one. There were luxurious mastic cosmetics in the bathroom and in the breakfast baskets choices of coffee and tea.

Although very tired, it was impossible to resist admiring the uniqueness of our suite and its beautiful external surroundings. We literally stayed sleepless, trying to…direct, film and photograph highlights of authentic medieval aura…

Our beds were big and very comfortable and we had to our disposal plasma tv and lap top too.

We enjoyed a royal douche and went eventually to sleep. We had seen so many things during that day…So many different and amazing things…We were feeling perfectly and had the absolute certainty that next morning would allow us to discover all the hidden secrets of this magical place. Moreover, we would have the chance to visit other splendid places too and above all the excellent and unique Mastic Museum of Chios. What else could one ask for?...
