Lagada - Marmaro

3/12/2017
Blue-Green waters!!!

After having taken many photos, we continued our route to Lagada. The first thing that impressed us, when we reached there, was the amazing beach with its emerald green and sapphire blue colors. We saw many fish taverns at the idyllic port and also small fishing boats and other tiny sea boats, which were anchored at the picturesque jetty.

It was high noon and the sun had dissolved the thin blanket of clouds when we decided to stop for lunch. We chose the tavern “Στου Γέρου” (“Stu Geru”), where once more we received generously the hospitality of the people of Chios. We ate fresh seafood and fish, Greek salad and an amazing crab salad too with a wonderful mayo sauce. We accompanied our excellent meal with ouzo.

After having indulged in this gastronomical pleasure and in the friendly discussion with the owner and his kind and polite friends, we left Lagada and took the road which would lead us to Marmaro.

Homeland of seafarers and ship-owners…

It is the haven of the old settlement Kardamyla (or Upper Village). Marmaro is a place with great naval tradition and hometown of many seafarers and ship-owners. There are still many magnificent ship-owners’ old mansions and other neoclassic residencies there with views to the opened sea.

In Marmaro, we were moved , among other sightseeing which reflect the specific naval culture of the place, by the statue of the Woman of Kardamyla who watches the sea, while waiting for her man’ s ship to return and also the statue of the Sailor of Kardamyla in the port square ( creation of the sculptor Apartis). Naturally we took many photos of what we were seeing in this exceptional village.
